22.53: Well that's it from me folks for the coverage of the Champions League final and this season.
It's been quite astonishing from beginning to the very, very end. Stay tuned throughout the summer though for live coverage of Euro 2012 - maybe tonight is a turning point for England and penalties. I'll see you then - cheerio.
22.48: John Terry and Frank Lampard lift the Champions League trophy to officially crown Chelsea European champions - congratulations to them.
22.47: A very happy Roman Abramovich greets all his players at the top of the steps as UEFA President Michel Platini hands out the winners' medals.
22.45: Di Matteo leads the Chelsea team up the steps, high-fiving random people as he walks along...
22.44: Chelsea players form a guard of honour for the Bayern players as they go up to claim their runners-up medals. I wonder how many of them will end up on ebay tomorrow...
22.41: You could probably add the Spurs players to that list too. Their fourth-place in the Premier League now means it's Europa League football for them next term - harsh, but rules are rules.
22.38: Wild celebrations from the Chelsea players, with even John Terry putting on a Chelsea kit to celebrate with them.
The Bayern Munich players are all slumped to the ground - I think the manner of this defeat in their own backyard is too hard to take for them. Robben looks crestfallen.
22.35: Don't ask me how though. Chelsea rode their luck throughout the tournament this season but I think if we have learned one thing this evening, it's always have the mental strength to never give up - it's what our new European champions are made of.
Kings of Europe: Chelsea celebrate with the Champions League trophy
CHELSEA HAVE WON THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Lampard scores BAY 3-2 CHE
Neuer scores BAY 3-1 CHE
David Luiz scores BAY 2-1 CHE
Gomez scores BAY 2-0 CHE
Mata saved BAY 1-0 CHE
Lahm scores BAY 1-0 CHE
Distraught: Philipp Lahm confronts Bastian Schweinsteiger after the midfielder missed his penalty
22.20: Remember to keep your refresh button ready folks, the penalties are coming any second now - and they are at the end of the stadium where the Bayern fans are.
22.17: Plenty of tired legs out there but how is the mental toughness of the players? Bayern wasted so many opportunities to win this game I fear for them here. Chelsea will be much the happier with penalties being needed to decide who are going to become European champions.
Full-time: Bayern Munich 1-1 Chelsea (The match will go to a penalty shootout)
120min: Drogba was booked for giving away that penalty by the way and now his strike partner, Fernando Torres, is cautioned for a trip.
118min: Just a couple of minutes left now and if one team is going to win it in open play it only looks like Bayern. They are camped inside Chelsea's half and have been for the last 13 minutes.
115min: They started extra-time brightly, but Chelsea have been reduced to an almost exclusive defensive role now. Playing for penalties I think they call it as Bayern press for a winner.
112min: Bayern are pressing but just can't apply the finishing touch! This time Gomez has an open goal to shoot at after a cut-back, but Chelsea's defensive pair somehow clear for a corner.
108min: Oh my word, Bayern have wasted another chance! Olic is unmarked at the back post for a cross but instead of controlling the ball he guides a first-time shot across the target and just wide of the post.
Second-half: The final 15 minutes (of open play anyway) of the Champions League this season gets underway.
22.00: Surely Chelsea's name is on this cup...they just seem to bounce back from ever setback.
Robbed: Robben sees his penalty saved by Petr Cech
Half-time: Bayern Munich 1-1 Chelsea
105+1min: One last chance of the half for Bayern as Lampard concedes a foul on the byline.
The cross into the box finds no one though as Chelsea clear.
103min: Free-kick for Chelsea 35 yards out but not too many blue shirts go up in attack.
The ball finds Torres on the right and his dangerous cross is headed clear by Bayern.
100min: Bayern are still edging play but they do not look as convincing now Muller has gone off.
A few tired legs out there now - especially the central defensive pair for Chelsea who have only just recovered from injuries.
97min: Ribery couldn't continue after that foul and he has been replaced by Ivica Olic.
95min: Hero to zero for Drogba as he trips Ribery inside the box, but the amazing Chelsea season in this competition continues as Cech saves and holds Robben's spot-kick! This is absolutely incredible.
93min: PENALTY (Bayern Munich)
93min: From OptaJoe:
5 - The last five Champions League finals that have gone to extra time have been decided by a penalty shootout. Lottery.
Extra-time: So after somehow saving the game at the death how Will Chelsea approach the next 30 minutes as we resume play?
Worth noting in the carnage of the past 10 minutes, Luiz was booked for a foul.
Against all odds: Didier Drogba headed a dramatic equaliser for Chelsea
Full-time: Bayern Munich 1-1 Chelsea (Extra-time to be played)
90+5min: Worst anti-climax ever. Drogba blasts it miles over after taking an age to strike the kick.
90+4min: Chelsea win a free-kick 25 yards out after Mata is tripped...
90+1min: It's end-to-end now. Suddenly both teams think they can win it in normal time! Three minutes added on.
88min: GOAL! Bayern Munich 1-1 CHELSEA
Hold the back page! It's the season that keeps on giving as Didier Drogba rises highest to head home from a corner - what drama here!
87min: Munich make a change as Muller is replaced by Daniel Van Buyten.
84min: Here come's Di Matteo's response as Fernando Torres replaces Kalou.
Heads up: Thomas Muller heads Bayern Munich into the lead
83min: GOAL! BAYERN MUNICH 1-0 Chelsea
It's been coming. Shortly after Thomas Muller has a header stopped by Cech, the German once again pounces at the back-post to head past the helpless Cech. German efficiency once again looks to have paid off.
81min: First yellow card for Chelsea as Cole is booked for chopping Muller's legs on the counter attack. Smart thinking to take one for the team there.
79min: I've never seen a team bottle it on so many occasions.
Muller has a great chance to fire home inside the box but he clumsily fires wide across the target - this awful finishing is quite incredible.
77min: From InfostradaLive:
Bayern are one of three sides to have won all of their CL home matches this season.
The others are Chelsea and Real Madrid, the team eliminated by Bayern in the semifinals.
74min: Couple of half-chances for Chelsea but Drogba's effort inside the box is straight at Neuer.
73min: To warm applause Bertrand is withdrawn as Florent Malouda replaces him for Chelsea.
72min: From OptaJoe:
11 - Chelsea have blocked 11 shots in this match; already more than any other team in any other game in the CL this season. Battle.
71min: Bayern manage to muster a shot from one of their attacks, but Kroos' low effort is superbly blocked by Cole. The full-back has been tremendous this evening.
69min: That Chelsea bus is parked now. Bayern are camped inside their opponent's half but cannot find any gaps in-between the blue shirts.
66min: Desperate times from the home team. Philipp Lahm charges into the box but goes down under the slightest bit of pressure from Drogba - never a penalty and the referee agrees.
Crunching challenge: Bayern's Bastian Schweinsteiger (left) clashes with Chelsea's Ashley Cole
63min: I thought I had never seen a team dominate a game like Barcelona did against Chelsea last month, without really testing the keeper.
It could be surpassed this evening. It's just wave-after-wave of Bayern attacking but the Bundesliga outfit have been woeful in the final third.
60min: More strong defending from Chelsea as Robben's goal-bound volley is superbly blocked.
57min: That seems to have snapped some life back into Chelsea who again are enjoying some possession. Are the German side starting to run out of ideas?
54min: Finally Bayern have the ball in the net...but it's offside. Ribery turns the ball in at the back post following a deflection from a Chelsea defender, but replays show he is in an offside position.
Whether the deflection starts a new phase of play though I have no idea - either way we are still at 0-0.
51min: No real chances, until now as Drogba tries a speculative 30 yard volley that flashes wide of the post.
Neuer had it covered but you wouldn't rule out the Ivorian from that distance.
48min: Bright start from Bayern but Chelsea are enjoying a rare spell of possession in the early moments.
So far, so good: Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo watched his side weather a first half storm from Bayern Munich
Second-half: Bayern Munich restart the game, no changes despite Cahill feeling his hamstring as he returns to action - one to watch.
20.42: Sportsmail's Neil Ashton has pointed out this is like Barcelona v Steaua Bucharest all over again.
He definitely has a point - you just sense the Blues might perform the ultimate 'smash-and-grab.'
20.39: From OptaPaolo:
19 – Bayern have made 19 touches in the opposition box in the first half of the game, Chelsea just three. Siege.
20.36: For any of you that witnessed that God awful final at Old Trafford in 2003, let me strongly point out that this final is nowhere near as bad as that.
There hasn't been too much goal mouth action, I admit, but it's been an intriguing half.
Mainly because I have never seen a top drawer striker (Gomez) miss so many chances.
20.33: From OptaJoe:
0 - On the last occasion that a Champions League final saw no goals in the first half, the game ended 0-0 (Juve v Milan in 2003). Tight.
Standing strong: Didier Drogba blocks Arjen Robben's free-kick
Half-time: Bayern Munich 0-0 Chelsea
45min: There will be one added minute.
43min: Lucky, lucky Chelsea! Bayern should have a penalty but advantage is sensibly played as Gomez has just Cech to beat from 16 yards out.
The German really doesn't have his shooting boots on though as he slips under the ball and blazes over.
40min: How many more chances do Bayern want? Robben lays the ball off to Ribery across the box, but his shot slices well wide across goal.
Fortunately for him it falls for an unmarked Gomez at the back-post. Unfortunately for the German he fails to get a shot in as the ball clumsily bounces off of him and away to safety.
In pain: Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery picked up a slight knock after a foul from Jose Bosignwa
37min: Fantastic play from Chelsea. They build across the pitch, with Didier Drogba's clever flick finding Kalou in space to the right of goal.
The forward's shot is decent but it's at Manuel Neuer's near-post and the keeper manages to claim the effort.
36min: Another Bayern chance goes begging. Ribery crosses from the byline but Muller volleys wide back across goal inside the box.
34min: What's up with everyone tonight? Europe's showpiece game has so far shown some really poor set-pieces as Juan Mata curls a good couple of yards over the bar from the dead ball.
33min: Good opportunity for Chelsea as Cahill is tripped by Jerome Boateng 20 yards to goal on the right.
32min: Stoppage in play as Ribery receives treatment on his achilles following a foul from Bosingwa. On the pitch Robben's volley to the ground lacks the power to trouble Cech.
29min: Robben's free-kick cannons off the wall though as Chelsea survive again.
No way past: Bayern Munich's Mario Gomez attempts an overhead kick past Chelsea's Petr Cech
28min: More Bayern pressure. Thomas Muller wins a soft free-kick following a slight push from David Luiz 25 yards out to the right of goal.
26min: From OptaJoe:
1 - Chelsea have only made one touch inside the Bayern Munich box after 20 mins. Shy.
24min: Chelsea just cannot keep hold of the ball and this is a very one-sided final so far.
The longer this goes on though you sense Bayern may start getting frustrated.
21min: Bayern are knocking on the door. Robben manages to squeeze past the defence inside the box but his low shot is well stopped by the feet of Cech before bouncing off the post. The Blues then scramble the ball clear for a corner.
19min: Madness! Gomez looks poised to score from a cut-back but he bizarrely elects to drag the ball straight to Bosingwa.
But incredibly it nearly results in a goal as the full-back's clearance sees him slice the ball wide for a corner.
17min: This is very similar to the Barcelona game so far. Bayern are seeing so much possession but Cech hasn't been forced into a save yet. top defending from the Blues so far.
14min: Half-chance for Munich but Mario Gomez can only head over a cross - the angle wasn't favourable for the German.
11min: Chelsea are still struggling to see the ball but they will be satisfied how they have quietened down the 'hosts' after that shaky start.
Getting stuck in: Ryan Bertrand (front) made his European debut for Chelsea
8min: Arjen Robben nearly haunts his former club by handing the lead to Bayern, but despite cutting inside on to his favoured left foot, he blazes miles over the bar.
In fact it's gone so far over that might land in the Olympic Stadium in the city - what a ground that was by the way.
7min: First attack from Chelsea. Didier Drogba manages to run into space on the right but his cross evades everyone inside the box - it was slightly too high but that's better from the Blues.
5min: Good defending from Cahill. Schweinsteiger gets a decent shot away from 20 yards but the defender reaches across to block the ball out for a corner
Kroos follows up shortly after to fire low and just wide of Petr Cech's near post - all Munich so far.
2min: The delivery is poor as Chelsea clear but despite the early Munich pressure, it's they who pick up the first booking as Bastian Schweinsteiger is cautioned for a deliberate handball.
1min: Early free-kick for Bayern after Ashley Cole catches Toni Kroos' foot 35 yards out.
Clash: Chelsea's Jose Bosingwa (left) and Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery vie for the ball
Kick-off To huge boos, Chelsea get us going.
19.43: The clouds are gathering over the pitch but the atmosphere inside the ground is tremendous.
Well that's hardly a surprise, if the fan's couldn't raise themselves for this game then I don't know what match would.
19.40: Out come the players, where we even get a live performance of the Champions League theme...I prefer the original.
19.37: The Champions League trophy has been lifted by a Bayern Munich favourite.
But it's not someone on the home side tonight, it's the Champions League final ambassador Paul Breitner, who places the cup on its spot at the touchline - he couldn't resist a celebratory lift though!
Fancy display: A mock Champions League trophy was displayed on the pitch as the sides walked out
19.34: From InfostradaLive:
Bayern are hoping to avoid becoming the third team to lose three CL (1992-2012) finals. AC Milan and Juventus have lost that many.
19.31: Just 15 minutes until kick-off, here Jamie Redknapp gives us his analysis on what we may see this evening.
19.28: REF WATCH: Pedro Proenca
I can't say I know too much about him, but I know a man who does as Sportsmail's Graham Poll gives you the lowdown on the Portuguese official.
19.25: Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo spoke to Sky Sports, touching on the fitness of David Luiz and Gary Cahill as well as the inclusion of Ryan Bertrand:
'They've been out three/four weeks - they are a higher risk than the others but anyone can pick up an injury.
'Malouda couldn't train the whole week but we have worked with Ryan tactically. Bayern's side is as expected.
The Italian also confirmed he has picked Bertrand based on his defensive qualities.
Appreciative: Frank Lampard applauds the Chelsea crowd warming up for the game
19.22: It's not just Chelsea looking to avenge a recent final defeat by the way, in regards to the penalty shootout loss to Manchester United in 2008.
Bayern Munich of course lost the 2010 final to Inter Milan - it wasn't as close though, as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat against Inter Milan at Real Madrid's Bernabeu stadium.
19.19: Time for another preview as Sportsmail's Matt Lawton looks at the build-up to the final and how mind games may play a role.
19.16: From InfostradaLive:
English clubs are undefeated in seven European matches featuring referee Pedro Proença (5 wins and 2 draws).
Bayern Munich have lost both of their two European matches with this referee in charge, including the 3-2 home defeat against Internazionale, which knocked Bayern out of the Champions League last season.
19.13: Of course home advantage can give you the edge, but history suggests it can backfire, quite spectacularly too.
Check out five famous finals where the hosts have choked, to this day I'm still stunned at the events of Euro 2004 to be quite honest.
19.10: From InfostradaLive:
Ryan Bertrand will be making his European debut tonight. He is the first player to make his CL main debut in a final, but not the first to make his European debut in a CC/CL final.
For instance, 30 years ago, Nigel Spink made his European debut for Aston Villa, which triumphed over Bayern Munich in the 1981/1982 Champions Cup final.
Passion: Fans from both teams show their support inside the stadium pre-match
19.07: Already the ground is nearly full, with Bayern fans making themselves at home and Chelsea supporters not forgetting to bring their blue and white European flags that have served them so well at Stamford Bridge this term.
19.04: Time for some pre-match reading with Sportsmail's excellent Martin Samuel and his views on the 'home' final.
19.01: So a huge night for Tottenham too, who are the third party in this game.
Their fourth place Champions League spot will go to Chelsea next season if the Blues win, as the rules state that no more additional places are given to respective football associations and that the holders have to take part.
Chelsea only finished a disappointing sixth in the Premier League.
18.58: Ryan Bertrand is pitched into the biggest game of his life tonight as the 22-year-old starts for Chelsea in their Champions League final clash with Bayern Munich.
With four players suspended, manager Roberto Di Matteo overlooks Florent Malouda and Michael Essien and elects to play Bertrand on the left flank, in front of Ashley Cole.
Defenders David Luiz and Gary Cahill are both declared fit and start as Chelsea look to win the competition for the first time, knowing victory would earn them a place in next season's competition at the expense of Tottenham, who finished fourth in the Premier League.
Bayern have their own defensive worries and, with Holger Badstuber suspended, elect to rely on Anatoliy Tymoshchuk to repel Didier Drogba.
First prize in show: Either Bayern Munich or Chelsea will lift the Champions League trophy after the game
18.55: Full line-ups from the Allia...Munich's Fussball Arena:
Bayern Munich v Chelsea
Bayern Munich: Neuer, Lahm, Boateng, Tymoschuk, Contento, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Robben, Muller, Ribery, Gomez. Subs: Butt, Van Buyten, Petersen, Olic, Rafinha, Usami, Pranjic.
Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Luiz, Cahill, Cole, Kalou, Mikel, Lampard, Bertrand, Mata, Drogba. Subs: Turnbull, Essien, Romeu, Torres, Malouda, Ferreira, Sturridge.
Referee: Pedro Proenca (Portugal)
18.52: From OptaJoe:
3 – On the 3 occasions that a CL/Euro Cup final was played in Munich, a team have won their first title (Nott 79, Mars 93, Dort 97). Blue.
18.49: So there is the eleven that will try and win not just Chelsea's first Champions League title, but London's too.
Only Arsenal and Tottenham from the capital have tried along with the Blues to win Europe's biggest club prize but it always end in tears.
Here is all three of their records since the tournament's foundation in 1955.
18.46: My first thought looking at those sides is that Chelsea may struggle getting width this evening. Bertrand is an unknown specimen but I don't think Salmon Kalou's strength is the right flank - we will see.
18.43: Bayern Munich starting XI:
Neuer, Lahm, Boateng, Timoschchuk, Contento, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Robben, Muller, Ribery, Gomez.
18.40: Chelsea starting XI:
Cech, Bosingwa, Cahill, David Luiz, Cole, Obi, Lampard, Kalou, Mata, Bertrand, Drogba.
What might have been: Chelsea's suspended skipper John Terry looks on inside the ground
18.37: Both teams have arrived at the stadium now, Munich were a little bit later than their opponents but I think we can rule out the possibility that they might have got lost...
18.33: And now Chelsea - boy did they have some close shaves along the way!
18.30: Lets have a little recap by looking at how the team's got to the final, first of all Bayern Munich.
18.25: From OptaJoe:
1 - English sides have won just one of their last eight European finals (Man Utd vs Chelsea in the 2007/08 Champions League). Pressure.
18.20: For the more casual fans out there, there is a reason this final is being played on Munich's own turf and it is not because UEFA have it in for Chelsea.
This final venue was decided way back before this season even started and it just so happens the German side have taken full advantage in the competition this term to have a favourable outcome.
Friends for now: Chelsea and Bayern Munich fans were in good spirits earlier in the day
18.15: Pitchside by the way is the the Allianz Arena...or for tonight and due to marketing purposes, Munich's Fussball Arena.
It's Bayern Munich's home ground of course, and was built purposefully for the 2006 World Cup. Sportsmail's Laura Williamson had a look round the stunning stadium.
18.10: Some interesting scenes already. Chelsea players have already had a walk round the pitch with a certain Fabio Capello chatting pitch side to John Terry.
Will we be seeing that scene a few more times next season?
18.05: No team news as yet, official confirmation should be in around 45 minutes time, but early reports suggest Ryan Bertrand will make his European debut by starting on the left of Chelsea's midfield tonight - no pressure then on the 22-year-old.
18.00: How things change in football. It wasn't too long ago Chelsea were staring at a last 16 exit in this competition following a 3-1 loss at Napoli.
Now they are 90 minutes away from lifting arguably club football's biggest prize - it's been nine years but will Roman Abramovich finally live the dream that started nine years ago? Welcome to our live coverage of the Champions League final.
Kings of Europe: Chelsea will aim to deny Bayern Munich a fifth crown with victory on the German side's ground
